Interim leadership change at GM’s Thai operations

Interim leadership change at GM’s Thai operations

US auto-maker General Motors has announced another executive leadership change at its Thai operations, effective immediately.
In an expanded role, Sumito Ishii, managing director of GM Vietnam, has assumed leadership responsibility for GM Thailand and Chevrolet Sales Thailand as interim managing director.
Meanwhile, Egyptian Wail A Farghaly, previously managing director of GM Thailand and Chevrolet Sales Thailand, has resigned to pursue other opportunities.
A permanent replacement will be announced at a later date, GM said in a statement on Tuesday.
“When leadership changes occur, our priority is always to ensure a smooth and efficient business transition,” said Stefan Jacoby, executive vice president of GM and president of GM International.
“Ishii has the right experience and knowledge of our operations to step in immediately. With our Southeast Asian strategy focused on trucks and SUVs, we are confident that Ishii will drive further business success in Thailand, as he has done in Vietnam,” he added.
Ishii joined GM in 1996 from Toyota Motor Corp, where he had served in dealer support and new-vehicle launch readiness.
From 1998 to 2003, Ishii was assigned to new-product development programmes at GM North America.
During this period, he also worked on strategic partnership projects with other automotive manufacturers.
When he returned to Japan in 2003, Ishii held various senior positions at GM Japan, including the post of managing director.
He has been in Vietnam since August 2016.
