Every day is a holiday

The southern province of Krabi promotes itself as a year-round destination with a fair

It’s already one of Thailand’s most popular tourist destination during the high season from November to April and now Krabi is setting out to promote itself as a year round place to chill with the “Krabi 365 Days” fair running from May 8 to 10 at Lan Pudum on Uttarakit Road.

The sleepy town will be coming to life throughout the three days with spectacular parades, street shows, concerts, food bazaar, a Krabi photo exhibition, an art exhibition and a showcase of the province’s products and services. The highlight is on the opening day, when local people will take to the streets for a colourful parade and NokAir stages its latest “Concert Song Yim” featuring top singers like PP Project, Jo-Kong, and Boy Peacemaker.

“Our aim is to introduce the province and show that Krabi province as a whole is a must see for all visitors. Coming here once is not enough. We’d love people to come back often and see for themselves all the different things we have to offer. Krabi has something for everyone whether they prefer adventure, gourmet food, culture or art,” says Krabi Governor Songpol Sawasditham.

“People know Krabi only for its island and beaches so they flock here during the high season but not in the low season (May to October). In fact Krabi has a lot more to offer than sand and sea. We have natural salt water hot springs, green forests, pre-historic paintings and on a rainy day, we have art galleries and fine museums to enjoy. That’s why we would like to tell the world that Krabi can be enjoyed everyday and all year round. We are trying to do away with the idea of high and low seasons and introduce instead the dry season and the green season. In the dry seasons, we can enjoy sun, sand and sea while in green seasons we can go to the forest and hot springs.

Viyada Srirangkul, director of the Krabi office of the Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) agrees.

“This campaign will allow Thai tourists to know more about Krabi and see what Krabi has to offer. We will also be showcasing movies from around the world that picked Krabi as their location in our Film&Travel corner. Anyone wanting to experience those attractions first hand can buy a package tour there and then,” she says.

“We encourage Krabi people and all visitors to wear striped shirts or decorate themselves with striped accessories to celebrate our mascot Mr Krabi, which was inspired by our famous pre-historic painting “Phi Hua Toh” (the Big-headed Ghost),” says Songpol.
