New Phetchaburi Road reopens after floods as stranded cars are cleared
New Phetchaburi Road has reopened in both directions after floodwater receded, with Bangkok officials working to remove stranded vehicles and restore traffic.
Traffic has returned to normal on New Phetchaburi Road after floodwater receded substantially, while Bangkok authorities are working to remove vehicles stranded or abandoned during the flooding.
Pol Gen Adis Ngamjitsuksri, adviser to the Bangkok governor, said on Monday (September 28, 2026) that water had almost completely drained from the road following heavy rain. Both inbound and outbound lanes were open as normal, including for motorcycles.
Only small amounts of standing water and wet road surfaces remained in some locations, but they were not obstructing traffic.
Stranded vehicles being removed
Several broken-down and unattended vehicles were still blocking parts of the road, with officials gradually moving them to temporary holding areas.
Around 13 vehicles were reported stranded overnight, before the number fell to about 10 as police began removing them.
The Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA) deployed additional tow trucks, while insurance companies also sent recovery vehicles after being contacted by vehicle owners.
A large Bangkok Mass Transit Authority (BMTA) bus was also parked near the turning lane from inbound New Phetchaburi Road towards Ekkamai. Authorities asked the BMTA to inspect and remove the vehicle promptly to prevent further traffic obstruction.
Adis said he had discussed the operation with the Metropolitan Police Bureau, and officials aimed to clear both directions of New Phetchaburi Road during the day before moving teams to Khlong Tan Bridge, where a larger number of stranded vehicles remained.
Two main temporary vehicle storage areas
Vehicles removed from the flooded road were being taken mainly to two locations:
- Kamphaeng Phet 7 Road, which runs parallel to New Phetchaburi Road.
- Somdet Saran Rat Maneerom Park, near Foodland and the Ekkamai entrance and exit on New Phetchaburi Road. The park is officially listed as being on New Phetchaburi Road.
Owners who cannot locate their vehicles can check at Somdet Saran Rat Maneerom Park and bring proof of ownership to the traffic division of Makkasan Police Station to confirm where their vehicle has been stored and the procedure for reclaiming it.
