Cooler weather forecast for most parts of Thailand

SUNDAY, NOVEMBER 19, 2023

Continuous heavy rain is forecast for the southern region on Sunday, the Thailand Meteorological Department said, even as the rest of Thailand will experience a cool day.

High-pressure areas or cold air masses are relatively strong and covering many parts of Thailand, resulting in cool to cold weather and strong winds in the northern and northeastern regions.

The central region, including Bangkok and its vicinity, the East, and the upper South woke up to a cold morning.

The department advised citizens across Thailand to take care of their health due to the increasingly cold weather, as well as to be cautious of potential hazards arising from dry conditions and strong winds.

The weather bureau anticipates the temperature to drop by 2-3 degrees Celsius nationwide and also warned of heavy rainfall.

Heavy rains have been forecast for the South.

The department said that the northeastern monsoon was affecting the Gulf of Thailand and the lower southern region, bringing heavy rains in some areas. People in the lower South are advised to be cautious of heavy rains, as accumulated water might cause flash floods and streams, especially in hilly and low-lying areas.

The following southern provinces can expect heavy rain on Sunday: Phatthalung, Songkhla, Pattani, Yala, Narathiwat, Trang, and Satun.

Amid the strong winds in the Gulf of Thailand, waves 2-3 metres high, or exceeding 3 metres in areas with thunderstorms, are expected. Waves about a metre high are expected in the Andaman Sea and higher in areas with thunderstorms. The department urged small vessels to navigate with caution.
