WEDNESDAY, MARCH 01, 2023

The China-Laos Railway operated 20,000 passenger trains and carried 10.3 million passengers by January 31, 2023, according to an update from the China Railway Kunming Bureau Group Co Ltd.

The China-Laos Railway, with a total length of 1,035 km, runs from Kunming in China to the northernmost provinces and Vientiane in Laos.

Since the full line was made operational on December 3, 2021, related departments in Laos have scientifically analysed the travel rules for passengers, constantly enriched passenger transport products, optimised station services, and set up ticket offices in major cities in Laos to extend the pre-sale time. Thus, the China-Laos Railway is able to meet the travel needs of passengers better.

Since the opening of the China-Laos Railway, eight passenger trains have been in operation in the Laos section every day, with a maximum of 10 trains running and 8,800 passengers being carried in a single day, and 1.6 million passengers in total.

The number of passenger service stations has increased from seven in the early days to 10 now, and the high-speed train shares the same line with the ordinary-speed train.

A translator of the Second Bid project of China-Laos Railway Station of China Railway Construction Group Co Ltd, Bounthavi, said: “I feel truly proud to see the outstanding achievements of China-Laos Railway and the changes in my hometown.”

He said that he has been involved in the construction of 12 stations, including Vientiane Station and Luang Prabang Station. A total of 10 maintenance staff are present at each station for better maintenance at present, and this provides a strong guarantee for the safe and stable operation of the railway, he said.
