The Artificial Intelligence Association of Thailand (AIAT) officially marked a milestone in the nation's technological evolution.
The event, held at the Ministry of Higher Education, Science, Research and Innovation (MHESI), celebrated the conclusion of the highly successful Super AI Engineer Season 5 while simultaneously kicking off Season 6.
Operating under the theme "Digital Workforce Transformation," the program is designed to bridge the gap between academic theory and industrial necessity. By tackling real-world challenges, the initiative aims to provide Thai citizens with high-level skills that lead to high-income careers, ensuring Thailand remains competitive in the global AI-driven economy.
A Legacy of Growing Talent
Over the past five seasons, the program has registered more than 45,800 participants, creating a robust pipeline of AI Engineers, Innovators, and Researchers. Season 5 alone saw nearly 13,000 applicants, with 1,224 individuals reaching the elite "Level 3" proficiency.
Dr. Punpermsak Aruni, Deputy Permanent Secretary of MHESI, emphasized the strategic importance of the initiative during his presiding remarks:
"Super AI Engineer Season 5 has helped strengthen the capabilities of Thai people in developing knowledge and innovation in AI for the tangible advancement of the nation. As the world moves toward an AI-Driven Economy, accelerating the development of AI talent has become a critical mission for enhancing national competitiveness. It is therefore encouraging that the Super AI Engineer program continues into Season 6... aiming to cultivate highly skilled AI professionals who can enter the industrial sector, generate new high-income employment opportunities, and enhance organizations’ capacity for revenue generation."
Comprehensive Learning Tracks
The program’s success lies in its structured approach, divided into three specialized tracks: AI Innovator, AI Engineer, and AI Researcher. Assistant Professor Dr. Nongnuch Ketui, Head of the Program and Vice President of AIAT, highlighted the program’s accessibility:
"The Super AI Engineer program serves as a learning platform that provides individuals from diverse disciplines with the opportunity to develop intensive AI skills through practical learning and engagement with real-world industry challenges. This enables participants to extend their experience into actual careers in the AI field and to create innovations that benefit the nation."
Beyond technical training, the program focuses on long-term sustainability through the AI Competency Framework and AI Credit Bank. This allows learners to accumulate knowledge and experience over time, fostering a continuous learning ecosystem.
The Future of AI Research
During a panel discussion titled "AI Research for Thailand and Beyond," Associate Professor Dr. Sarana Nuchanong, Head of the AI Researcher group, noted the necessity of collaboration:
"The development of AI research in Thailand must be closely connected across academia, industry, and policy sectors in order to produce research that can be applied in practice and generate long-term economic and social impact."
Season 6: What’s New?
Supported by the Program Management Unit for Frontier Brainpower and Future Industries (PMU-B), Season 6 will focus on both "Hard Skills" (model development, coding) and "Soft Skills" (problem-solving, business integration).
