THURSDAY, NOVEMBER 30, 2023

The Thai Cement Manufacturers Association (TCMA) hosted the 44th Council Meeting of the ASEAN Federation of Cement Manufacturers (AFCM) in Thailand, signalling a significant step towards fostering a low-carbon economy and addressing the global challenge of climate change.

Delegates from seven AFCM member countries participated in the meeting, including Butra HeidelbergCement Sdn Bhd, Indonesia Cement Association (ICA), The Cement & Concrete Association of Malaysia (C&CA), Cement Manufacturers Association of the Philippines, Inc. (CeMAP), Cement & Concrete Association of Singapore (CNCAS), Thai Cement Manufacturers Association (TCMA), and Vietnam National Cement Association (VNCA). Notably, the Cambodia Cement Manufacturers Association (CCMA) joined as an observer for the first time, enhancing collaboration among cement manufacturers in ASEAN.

The theme of AFCM 2023 was "ASEAN Cement Collaboration towards Decarbonization," focusing on the direction, trends, and challenges faced by the ASEAN cement industry. Discussions encompassed technical cooperation in greenhouse gas (GHG) reduction, innovations, alternative materials in cement production, alternative energy to reduce fossil fuel/coal consumption, and resource efficiency aligned with the circular economy principles.

AFCM wholeheartedly supports TCMA's commitment to Net Zero 2050. TCMA is actively pursuing the implementation of Thailand's 2050 Net Zero Cement & Concrete Roadmap, aligning the country's cement industry with global efforts to achieve Net Zero emissions by 2050.
