Big jump in number of SMEs

The number of small and medium enterprises (SMEs) jumped by 8.63 per cent between the end of 2016 and July 11, 2017.

The number of SMEs now total some 3 million businesses, according to a survey by the Office of Small and Medium Enterprise Promotion, or OSMEP.
OSMEP announced the survey on Monday.
The number of staff employed by SMEs also rose from 10.75 million at the end of 2016 to 11.74 million as of July 11, 2017 – a 9.3 per cent jump, said Salinee Wangtarn, the director-general.
“SMEs are rising in all of business categories, such as hospitality, agriculture and industry,” she said.
