Since the announcement of the joint venture between Line Pay, Rabbit, the BTS and AIS, the number of Rabbit Line Pay users has grown from 3 million to 4.5 million, a 50 per cent growth in less than six months.
Mobile and digital payments are experiencing an exponential growth, driven by the demand from consumers for convenience and the boom of social-media commerce in Thailand, where payment from a consumer to a seller is done mainly through mobile banking. According to the central bank, mobile banking transactions in the first quarter of this year rose 130 per cent from the same period last year.
