Thailand destroys 2 million infringing goods as IP losses top THB2.1bn
Thailand is destroying more than 2 million IP-infringing goods worth THB2.14 billion as it strengthens enforcement and seeks to leave the US Watch List.

The Department of Intellectual Property (DIP) is destroying more than 2 million seized goods from finalised intellectual property infringement cases this year as Thailand steps up enforcement and advances a joint IP Work Plan with the United States aimed at moving the country off the Watch List.
Dr Piyanuch Wuttisorn, Vice Minister for Commerce, chaired a destruction ceremony at the Army Air Defence Command in Bangkok’s Don Mueang district on Thursday (September 10). The DIP joined government agencies, private-sector rights holders and international partner organisations in the operation.
Piyanuch noted that the government and the Ministry of Commerce attach high importance to protecting intellectual property rights and are intensifying action against infringement across both online and offline markets.
A total of 2.08 million items are being destroyed this year, up 36.45% from 1.52 million in 2025. Their estimated damage value has risen to THB2.14 billion, an increase of 138.19% from THB900.91 million last year.
The figures reflect joint enforcement efforts by the Royal Thai Police, Customs Department and Department of Special Investigation, which have carried out arrests and seized infringing goods through both online and offline channels.
The seized products include clothing, watches, bags, electronic equipment, vehicle parts, medicines, cosmetics, food and beverages, and other everyday consumer goods.
The goods will be destroyed at factories with ISO 14001:2015 environmental management systems in Samut Prakan and Phra Nakhon Si Ayutthaya provinces to ensure that disposal is carried out appropriately without adversely affecting the environment or nearby communities.
Piyanuch stressed that bringing Thailand’s intellectual property protection into line with international standards requires strong and continuous law enforcement alongside proactive cooperation with trading partners, particularly the United States.
Thailand remains on the Watch List under the 2026 Special 301 Report on intellectual property protection and enforcement.
The DIP and relevant agencies will accelerate implementation of the IP Work Plan developed jointly with the Office of the United States Trade Representative (USTR).
The plan seeks to strengthen enforcement in high-risk areas and locations with high levels of infringement, reduce the sale of infringing goods, protect consumers from substandard products and promote a more transparent trading environment that can attract trade and investment.
