According to the lawsuit, Rangsan suffered damage to his reputation and business, and was deprived of opportunities to earn a living and provide for his family as a father and husband while fighting the case against him. The plaintiff also pointed to the fact that he became indebted and faced many business-related court cases as a result of the alleged infringement.
In 2008, after a 15-year trial, the Criminal Court sentenced Rangsan and three other men to 25 years' imprisonment each after finding them guilty of involvement in a foiled plot to assassinate Praman, who died of a lung infection in 2007 at the age of 71.
In September last year, the Court of Appeals acquitted all four defendants in the case, questioning the prosecution's claims about the alleged plot.
