Four troops killed in Narathiwat ambush

A teacher-protection team was ambushed Wednesday morning leading to four dead soldiers and one soldier injury while a seven-year-old schoolboy was also wounded by a stray bullet.

At about 11am, suspected insurgents attacked the Narathiwat 30th special task force unit’s sixstrong team in a fruit orchard opposite Lamor Nok School in Reu So district, before fleeing with the soldiers weapons and scattering road spikes. The stray bullet also injured sevenyearold schoolboy Alamin Pokira while he was standing in front of his Prathom 2 classroom.
The police investigators found four soldiers’ bullet-ridden bodies (Sergeant Nithi Aree, Sergeant Supachai Kaewnunuan, Private Nujarin Surakan and Private Napasin Chusri) in the orchard, 50 meters from the road, and collected some 100 spent M16 and AKA bullet casings. The seriously injured Private Kraiwit Sukon, 22, was rushed to Reu So Hospital.
