Arisman, Darunee to surrender

A lawyer for Arisman Pongruangrong has said the fugitive red-shirt leader will turn himself in some time in October, Department of Special Investigation director-general Tarit Pengdith said yesterday.

He said the DSI would inform Arisman of its charges, then he would be transferred to the lawyer’s care as the DSI had already completed its report on terrorism cases.
A DSI source said its officers could not go out and arrest five fugitives still fleeing terrorism cases. The court would not issue arrest warrants for them as the cases had already been sent to the attorney-general.
Meanwhile, red-shirt lawyer Karom Poltaklang said another fugitive, Darunee Kritboonyalai, was scheduled to return to Thailand on Sunday. She would turn herself in to Lumpini police station in Bangkok next week. Karom said Darunee’s decision resulted from the country beginning to return to normal. The proposals of the National Truth for Reconciliation Committee are positive signs, he said.
