Convicts help build flood walls

Hundreds of convicts have been sent to help weary state workers and soldiers build more flood walls to protect Bangkok, a senior Corrections Department official said Thursday.

About 500 convicts from prisons in Bangkok and the neighbouring provinces were recruited for the job of strengthening the city’s temporary flood walls, according to the department’s deputy directorgeneral, Thanis Sriyaphan.
Thanis said that he Friday would accompany some 300 convicts to help build flood-prevention walls around the Suvarnabhumi International Airport, as there was a shortage of manpower for the job.
