Budget cuts won't hurt health, says Wittaya

Public Health Minister Wittaya Buranasiri Thursday affirmed that although the ministry's budget had been cut by 5 per cent in the fiscal year 2012, it wouldn't affect medical services provided to universal health scheme subscribers.

He said the ministry would introduce some changes, including promoting people to use tambon-level facilities more and the collection of the Bt30 fee.
Saying that budget cuts for all ministries were necessary for the government to manage and spend on tackling flood impacts, Wittaya said that, despite the cut, the ministry still received more than the previous fiscal year.
The universal health scheme would get, after the cut, Bt107,814.1154 in the fiscal year 2012, while it received Bt101,057.911 in the previous fiscal year.
