Yahoo considering takeover offers

San Francisco - Yahoo's board of directors met Wednesday to consider partial buyout offers from private equity investors.

The meeting coincided with reports that Chinese e-commerce site Alibaba was building a consortium with other private equity firms to take over the entire struggling internet pioneer at a premium price, Bloomberg News reported.
The bid from Alibaba, which is the company's Asian partner, is reported to value the company at 20 dollars a share, while the bids already tabled by Silver Lake and TPG were pegged at 16.60 dollars a share, barely above the company's closing price on Wednesday.
Alibaba has not yet made a formal offer for the company and is waiting to be invited by Yahoo's board to bid, Bloomberg News reported. Alibaba's partners include the private equity firms Blackstone and Bain Capital as well as the Japanese company Softbank.//DPA
