Samsung gets go-ahead to sell Galaxy tablet computer in Australia

Sydney - Samsung Electronics Co Ltd on Friday won a legal battle against Apple Inc for the right to sell its Galaxy Tab 10.1 tablet computer in Australia.

The High Court rejected an appeal by Apple against a lower court ruling which allowed Galaxy sales to go ahead during the main intellectual copyright case between the companies.
Apple's case against its South Korean rival did not have a strong enough chance of success to warrant holding off sales until the case was concluded, the High Court ruled.
Samsung said it would have the Galaxy in shops in time for pre-Christmas shopping.
A ruling in the main copyright case in Australia was expected in early 2012.
The two manufacturers are in legal battles in several countries over their competing tablet computers and smartphones.
Apple says Samsung copied some of the appearance and interface elements from its iPad and iPhone, with the South Korean company accusing its California-based rival of using its wireless communication and other technology without permission.//DPA
