Residents near Gulf to miss lunar eclipse

Songkhla's southeastern coastal meteorological centre yesterday said last night's lunar eclipse would not be visible to Southern residents along the Gulf of Thailand as the region was having the monsoon season, with cloudy sky and scattered rain showers

Weather forecaster Chokechai Choomnui said that from yesterday until tomorrow, the intense high pressure ridge from China hovered over upper Thailand and the Southern China Sea, causing the northeast monsoon over the Gulf and southern Thailand to intensify, bringing widespread thundershowers and isolated heavy rainfall to the Southern east coast from Chumphon southwards. It also caused 2-4-metre high waves in the Gulf. The rains were expected to prevent the people of the region from viewing the year’s second lunar eclipse. Several parts of the South also could not fully witness the previous lunar eclipse on June 16 due to rains.
