BMA eyes setting up long-term flood prevention panel

Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA) is hoping to set up a committee for long-term flood prevention.

“I will chair the committee myself,” Bangkok Governor MR Sukhumbhand Paribatra said Tuesday.
He disclosed the plan after the flood crisis wreaked havoc in many parts of the capital during the past few months. Runoff water from the upper part of the country was blamed for causing the massive deluges in Bangkok.
“The current water-drainage system is designed to deal with heavy rain and natural high tide, not to accommodate the influx of runoff water form upriver,” Sukhumbhand said.
