Bhumibol Dam to host countdown party

The Bhumibol Dam in Tak will host the countdown party to the New Year for the first time, as relevant authorities seek to dismiss a widely-circulated prediction about the dam crumbling down on January 1, 2012.
“The Tak Count Down Festival will take place right on the crest of the Bhumibol Dam,” Deputy Tak Governor Woot Sittisurat said Friday, “I want to assure everyone that the dam is safe”.
The dam’s assistant director Sirichai Saengsuwan said the dam’s compound would be open to the public at night for the first time so as to ease public worry about the prediction.
