Truck driving protesters on Monday used their vehicles to block the frontage road on the outbound section of Vibhavadi-Rangsit starting from the Lat Prao Intersection after their demand that government cancel plans to increase the price of NGV fuel was no

Yu Jiayuenyongpong, chief adviser of the Central Transport Association of Thailand, said the association decided to block the road as part of the measures to pressure the government into cancelling the plan to increase the retail price of NGV gas.
The protest in front of the Energy Ministry on Vibhavadi-Rangsit Road since early morning brought traffic at this busy intersection to a virtual standstill. It was expected the blockage would make the already congested traffic worse.
The protesters used 96 trucks, 55 private buses and two pick-ups to block two lanes of the road.
Yu added members of the association would also block three major NGV distribution stations in Nam Pong district of Khon Khen, Sak Koke district of Pathum Thani and Saraburi.
Privately owned buses will cease service today starting from 4pm.
Meanwhile Chatchai Phu-aree, chairman of the association of truck operators, said the price increase would affect the people.
Chatchai said the government should not allow PTT Plc to monopolise the sale of NGV gas.
The Cabinet has allowed PTT to increase the price of NGV by 50 satang per month, which will in effect increase the price from Bt8.50 per kilo currently to Bt14.50 by the end of the year.
