Yingluck's popularity on the wane, Abhisit's on the rise

Although the popularity of the prime minister has dropped slightly while that of the opposition leader is increasing, more than one in two people have no confidence in the two, based on an Abac Poll released on Thursday.

From September to this month, PM Yingluck Shinawatra saw her popularity dropping from 38.6 per cent to 34.7 per cent. The profiling of Yingluck's supporters showed that the majority are males aged 50 and older and with less than tertiary education.
In the same period, Democrat Abhisit Vejjajiva enjoyed a slight increase in popularity from 12.9 per cent to 14.2 per cent.
The majority of Abhisit's supporters are university graduates and urban residents.
People living outside the municipal areas, retirees and farmers and workers tend to favour Yingluck.
About 57 per cent of students and 54 per cent of urban residents appear to lack confidence in any politicians.
With the exception of the South, Yingluck's popularity has outpaced that of Abhisit's across the country. Her popularity is strongest in the Northeast (51 per cent).
Only 4.5 per cent of southern residents approve of Yingluck while 38 per cent have confidence in Abhisit.
In the Central Region, Yingluck has outpaced Abhisit but almost 60 per cent have no confidence in either of the two.
The survey was conducted on the national sampling of 4,689 respondents from 17 selected provinces. The margin of error is seven per cent.
