Coalition to start pushing for charter amendments next month: chief whip

The Pheu Thai Party-led coalition government will start pushing for constitutional amendments next month, the coalition chief whip said Monday.

Udomdej Ratanapian, the chairman of the coalition coordination committee on parliamentary affairs, said the whips agreed in a meeting Monday the amendment process would start next month.
Udomdej said the whips agreed that the amendment bill would seek to amend Article 291 of the Constitution so that new constitution drafting assembly would be set up to draft a new charter.
He said the bill is now being drafted by a group of coalition MPs and a civil group will also sponsor the people’s draft.
