New Apple bid to stop Samsung tablet in Germany fails

Berlin - A new court bid in Germany by Apple to ban a tablet computer made by its rival Samsung has failed, with Munich judges ruling that Samsung's Germany-only Galaxy Tab 10.1 N model did not breach an Apple patent.

The two companies are fighting a worldwide war in the courts over both patents and legally-protected style features. US-based Apple charges that Samsung products look too much like the Apple iPad.

Samsung welcomed on Thursday the previous day's ruling and said the fight would go on. Florian Mueller, an expert on patent law, said the verdict had turned on a patent for displaying information on a touch-sensitive screen.

The N model at issue in the case was specially designed for the German market after courts banned local distribution of its Galaxy Tab 10.1 predecessor. Earlier this week, Samsung failed in an appeal against that ban. //DPA
