BMA alleges Grand Park Avenue illegally modified

The Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA) has found the Grand Park Avenue Hotel, which had been ravaged by fire killing two tourists and injured some 20 others on the night of March 8, to illegally modify the building.

BMA deputy governor Theerachon Manomaipibul said Monday that the BMA public works department’s investigation found that the hotel building was illegally modified, as the landlord had asked the Khlong Toei district office’s permission in 1999 to expand the parking lot but they then modified it to serve as a party hall instead – which was within the violation of the Building Control Act 1979.

Theerachon said he thus had the Khlong Toei district office director filed a police complaint at the Thong Lor police station against the landlord for the illegal building modification – punishable for up to three months in jail and/or Bt60,000 in fine.
