Wall St ends mixed

U.S. stocks closed mixed in quiet trade as investors held on for news later this week out of the Federal Reserve's scheduled policy meeting.
The Dow Jones industrial average closed up 37.69 points, or 0.29 per cent at 12,959.71.
Standard & Poors 500 index ended up 0.22 point, or 0.02 per cent at 1,371.09.
Utilities and consumer staples held out front and energy and financials lagged among the 10 sectors on the S&P 500.
Nasdaq composite dropped 4.68 points, or 0.16 per cent.
