Unesco seeks progress report on convention membership

The United Nations Educational Scientific and Cultural Organisation (Unesco) is seeking a progress report on Thailand's plan to join four international conventions.
Culture Minister Sukumol Kunplome said Tuesday that Francesco Bandarin, assistant directorgeneral of Unesco Bangkok, was following up on the issue.
Thailand has ratified four of Unesco conventions, but has yet to become a member state. The four conventions are prohibiting and preventing the illicit import, export and transfer of ownership of cultural property; protection of underwater cultural heritage; protection of world cultural and natural heritage; and protection and promotion of the diversity of cultural expressions.
Sukumol explained that the government was taking necessary steps to become a member state of the conventions.
