Wall Street dips as Federal Reserve signals stimulus unlikely

Washington - Stocks fell on Wall Street Tuesday after minutes released from the Federal Reserve's last meeting showed the central bank was unlikely to consider further measures to stimulate the economy.

The minutes from last month's Fed meeting showed officials were disinclined to take further action such as buying up bonds unless the recovery stalls or inflation stagnates. At its March 13 meeting, the Fed said it was likely to keep interest rates near zero through at least late 2014.
The blue-chip Dow Jones Industrial Average shed 64.94 points, or 0.49 per cent, to 13,199.55. The S&P 500 fell 5.66 points, or 0.4 per cent, to 1,413.38. The Nasdaq declined 6.13 points, or 0.2 per cent, to 3,113.57.
The US currency rose against the euro to 75.56 euro cents from 75.07 euro cents on Monday. The dollar also gained against the Japanese currency to 82.85 yen from 82.07 yen.//DPA
