Abhisit alleges govt plan to whitewash Thaksin

The government has invoked reconciliation as a pretext to whitewash fugitive former prime minister Thaksin Shinawatra which will lead to deeper divisions instead of mending fences, Democrat Party leader Abhisit Vejjajiva said Thursday.
Abhisit said his main opposition party had no objection to ending the political conflict but would not condone helping Thaksin eluding the law.
“The Democrats will not help putting Thaksin above Thai laws,” he said.
He said the government was manipulating the work on fence-mending measures proposed by the Truth for Reconciliation Commission of Thailand and the King Prajadhipok’s Institute in order to rescue Thaksin.
