EC commissioner Sodsri Satayatham, who is in charge of political parties’ affairs, said two of the 11 disbanded parties were dissolved by the Constitution Court’s order for failing to submit reports of their political activities within the deadline, and thus violating Article 42 of the Political Parties Act. The two were Siam Party and Puan Kaset Thai Party.
She said three parties were dissolved with the Constitution Court’s order for violating Article 26 of the Political Parties Act by failing to register 5,000 members and setting up at least a party branch in all five regions. They were the Thai Pen Suk Party, Palanuparp Party and Khum Klao Thai Party.
Sodsri said the rest of the parties were disbanded by their own executive boards’ decision. They were the Thai Social Party, the Rak Paendin Party, Palang Muanchon Party, Palang Heng Dharma Party, Prachachon ChaoThai Party and Civilization Party.
Sodrsi said there are so far 51 active political parties.
