Fires broke out in Pathum Thani and Korat

A fire totally destroyed the temporary shelters of sawmill workers in Pathum Thani's Klong Luang district on Thursday.

There were no reports of casualties as the workers were working at the site when the fire broke out.
A motorcycle taxi driver taking a passenger to a nearby destination saw the fire and alerted sawmill owner Wutthipong Chantarasuwan, 50. Five fire-engine trucks rushed to the scene but the fire had already engulfed the shelters and destroyed all nine of the one-storey shelters.
Police speculated that the fire may have been caused by a electrical fault and the heat. The damage was estimated at about Bt3 million.
Fire also broke out at a house in Nakhon Ratchasima’s Muang district about 50 metres from a gas station.
There were no injuries. Police and firefighters were alerted to the blaze at 9.15am and rushed to the building on Yommarat road.
The initial investigation revealed that the fire started on the second floor of the house. People living nearby ran out in a panic as a Shell gas station is located some 50 metres from the building.
The firefighters sprayed water on the house in a bid to prevent the fire from spreading. They were able to bring the blaze under control in about 45 minutes.
The fire totally destroyed the house, which later collapsed. Owner Anurat Kumpakdee, 47, told police that he and his wife left for work in the morning, leaving his 78-year-old mother who suffered from diabetes in the house.
The elderly woman was rescued from the burning building. Damage was estimated at about Bt1.5 million. The cause was thought be an electrical fault.
