Dead inmate funeral procession via Government House

The funeral procession of dead inmate Ampon Tangnoppakul on Thursday moved from in front of the Criminal Court buildking on Ratchadapisek Road, passing Government House and Parliament, before reaching Wat Dan Samrong in Samut Prakan.

The procession route would included the home of Democrat Party leader Abhisit Vejjajiva on Sukhumvit 31 Road. The litigation on the Ampon case took place in 2010 when Abhisit was the prime minister.
Organisers said the procession was a non-political event but meant as a gesture to remind the people in power that Ampon died before receiving justice on his lese majeste case.
Before his death at the prison’s hospital on Tuesday, Ampon was sentenced to serve 20 years in jail for sending four short messaging services deemed offensive to the monarchy.
The defence had dropped the appellate review and the bail application in March in order to seek a royal pardon.
