Reconciliation bill on House agenda for Wednesday

The Democrats and senators have disclosed that the reconciliation bill has been suspeciously put as one of the House agendas for deliberation next Wednesday.

The bill is sponsored by Matubhum Party leader Sonthi Boonyaratglin and a number of Pheu Thai MPs.
Chief opposition whip Jurin Laksanawisit on Friday said he suspected the government had gone back on its pledge about not rushing the reconciliation designed to assist former prime minister Thaksin Shinawatra overcoming his legal predicament.
“It is clear the government is trying to be sneaky,” he said.
Previously the government pledged to hold a public dialogue to form a consensus on mending fences before proceeding to push for the passage of the reconciliation bill, he said.
He said the political strife might erupt once again if the government tried to push for the legislation designed to benefit just one man.
Senator Kamnoon Sithisaman said the crucial clause of the bill was designed to grant total amnesty for Thaksin repealing the judicial decisions on his two-year prison sentence and his Bt46 billion asset seizure.
Under the bill, all legal proceedings initiated or sponsored by the 2006 coup will be nullified, resulting in the stop of all probes, ongoing or suspended trails. All verdicts will be repealed.
All individuals targeted in the coup-sponsored proceedings would be treated like they have never been accused, tried, and convicted. Those serving time must be immediately released.
