Democrats seek probe into charter amendments

Democrat MPs, led by Wiratana Kalayasiri, Tuesday lodged their complaint with public prosecutors seeking a probe into charter amendments on suspiction they were unconsitutional.

The Democrats said neither the government nor Parliament had the mandate to write the new charter.
The public prosecutors should draw a conclusion on the constitutionality of the charter change before the third reading of the bill, otherwise the complexity of the legal issues involved would increase, Wiratana said.
He also said the Democrats would await the outcome of the prosecutor’s review of the bill before deciding whether to seek a judicial intervention.
