Customs tunnel opened

Officials at the Ubon Ratchathani Customs checkpoint at Chong Mek yesterday opened the country's only Customs tunnel in a bid to prevent accidents at the Thai-Laotian border crossing, which boasts trade volume of Bt10 billion a year.
Chong Mek Customs checkpoint head Krisada Thongthammachat said the 200-metre-long tunnel from the checkpoint office to the border was built because many tourist vehicles and buses often cut in at the front of the line, resulting in frequent accidents as many goods-transport trucks passed through there.
