Yongyuth warns people against blocking roads

Deputy Prime Minister and Interior Minister Yongyuth Wichaidit Monday warned the people against blocking roads to highlight their grievances, saying the government would no longer tolerate such practices.

Yongyuth said the people could submit their grievances to the government but it was important they avoided violating the laws by blocking roads.
“If they block roads, Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra and the government will not tolerate it. The government will not give in to demands made through mob rule,” Yongyuth said.
He cited the case of three protest leaders in Pathum Thani as a warning. He said the three leaders were sentenced to Bt1,000 fine each and one-month jail term for blocking a road in Pathum Thani to show dissatisfaction over flood compensation. The jail term was suspended.
Yongyuth said the government would not allow Pathum Thani people to block roads to demand more flood compensation again.
He said the flood victims would have to first accept the prepared compensation and submit new requests for more compensation if the money was insufficient.
Yongyuth said mistakes might be made at the local administration level, which tended to give special care to their political supporters.
He said a deputy permanent secretary for Interior Ministry would be dispatched to receive complaints of the Pathum Thani people.
