Bt30 fee to be collected for universal healthcare programme on August 1

The collection of per-treatment Bt30 fee under the National Health Security Office welfare, on a voluntary basis, will begin August 1, ending a debate with those opposed to collecting the meagre amount citing dignity of beneficiairies.

The fee is exempted, under orginal conditions when the scheme was founded in 2001 initially as Bt30 universal healthcare scheme, for children, elderlies, disabled people and those defined poor under an Interior Ministry definition, Public Health Minister Witthaya Buranasiri said Wednesday.
The fee is exempted unconditionally also in treatments which require no prescription of medicines, but is preferred in case medicines are ordered, he added. The collection is expected to general around Bt2 billion a year which would be returned to all hospitals tied with the NHSO scheme, known currrently also as golden card scheme.
