In Bangkok, Mongkol Kantarachamnan, 25, was arrested Friday evening for allegedly transporting 2.09kg of ice worth Bt3 million, after police posing as buyers contacted a man known as Arkhom to arrange a purchase, Narcotics Suppression Bureau officers told a press conference yesterday.
Mongkol reportedly confessed to being hired by Arkhom to deliver ice to the latter’s customers. Mongkol said he was paid Bt20,000-Bt30,000 per delivery.
Police said Arkhom, who had so far avoided attempts to arrest him, had hired hilltribe people from the North of Thailand to transport narcotics.
Meanwhile, Pattaya police early yesterday morning arrested Charin Boonyarat, 35, and seized about 2.5 grams of ice, a 9mm gun, nine bullets, two digital scales and drug-taking paraphernalia from him.
Police said Charin confessed to selling the drug to youngsters in Chon Buri’s Bang Lamung district and in Pattaya. He was jailed on a separate drug-selling conviction two years ago.
And in Songkhla, police seized 7 kg of ice worth Bt21 million from a house in Muang district on Friday but two suspects, identified as Wiphaphorn Chimthab and her female partner, escaped arrest and are sought by police.
Information on Wiphaphorn’s most recent mobile-phone communications showed that she was in Songkhla’s Sadao district, which borders Malaysia. Police contacted immigration officers to check if she and her partner had crossed the border. They were in the process of issuing arrest warrants against the couple.
