S&P 500 slid 0.42 points, or 0.03 percent, to end at 1,337.89. Among the key S&P sectors, telecoms ended higher, while techs fell.
Nasdaq composite fell 8.75 points, or 0.31 per cent to 2,854.24, weighed by Apple Inc following the iPhone maker's rare earnings miss.
