House-registration database crashes

The Provincial Administration Department's household-registration database crashed Tuesday, disrupting many types of public services including the issuing of national identification cards and passports for several hours.

“Services at more than 1,000 district offices and subdistrict offices have been affected,” Supapong Krissanapan said Tuesday in his capacity as chief of BMA’s Administration and Registration Division. He said a software glitch may have caused the problem.
“The database has been up and running since 1pm,” he said, adding that software used by the Provincial Administration Department was more than 10 years old.
