Police in Uthai Thani – where Chada’s constituency is located – and Nakhon Ratchasima’s Pak Chong district are working on the case. Pak Chong police chief Pol Colonel Thanawut Hekhajaroen said registration details of vehicles in Pak Chong and handguns in the province are being checked out. The probe is focused on 9mm-calibre handguns.
The head of a rescue charity in the Pak Chong area, Somwang Kanjanaphongphorn, said many rescue vehicles resembled the one described by Thanawut, and welcomed any inspections. A police source said the vehicle was unlikely to have been an off-road vehicle of the type used by jungle adventurers, because such vehicles must have their suspension systems heightened, not lowered.
Meanwhile, Chada and five aides who were in the black Toyota Prado SUV with victim Farut Thaiset at the time of the shooting last Sunday night went to Uthai Thani police headquarters for interviews yesterday. The details were not made public.
Deputy Prime Minister Chalerm Yoobamrung repeated the police’s theory that the shooting of Farut was not a premeditated murder, but a case of road rage.
