Sukhothai under water again as Yom River rises

Flooding returned to Sukhothai on Sunday night, with water from the Yom River seeping through sandbag embankments, and pouring over the top in some spots.

The floodwaters rose by 30-80 centimetres though the flow was not as fast as before. Some 300 soldiers worked to reinforce the sandbag embankment to reduce the flooding.

Local residents are complaining about the lack of drinking water, a problem for the last two days since the flooding of the city’s water treatment facilities.

In Si Samrong and Sawankhalok districts, the waters began receding after the rising Yom River spilled over in Sawankhalok district, inundating the riverside community under two metres of water.
