The move is part of a training programme signed yesterday by the National Police, the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), the Foundation for Aids Rights and the Justice Ministry’s Department of Rights Protection.
“This training will help our officers become a helping hand for people living with HIV/Aids,” Pol Lt-General Chanin Preechaharn said.
A course for 40 trainers kicked off right after the signing. “The officers being trained here today will eventually train as many as 10,000 junior officers every year on basic HIV prevention, principles of rights and better understand what it means to live with stigma and discrimination and how it can be addressed,” UNDP’s Luc Stevens said.
More than 500,000 people are living with HIV in Thailand, with up to 10,000 new infections every year.
