The Office of the Auditor-General was concerned that the new rates were rather high and had asked the NHSO to reconsider the measure, but the NHSO board yesterday upheld its decision to implement the new rates anyway.
The NHSO sets aside 1 per cent of its funds to cover the initial remedial payments and the increased rates would not exceed that, said Public Health Minister and NHSO board chair Wittaya Buranasiri.
In the past fiscal year, there were 951 requests for initial remedial payments from the NHSO. Of that number, 834 qualified for payments totalling Bt985.77 billion.
