Foreign pilots land Indonesian plane at wrong airport

Jakarta - An Indonesian commercial plane landed at the wrong airport, 15 kilometres south of the intended destination, reports said Sunday.

A Sriwijaya Air flight carrying 96 passengers was supposed to land in the West Sumatra Minangkabau International airport Saturday evening but instead landed at Tabing airport.

The Tabing airport ceased to serve commercial airlines in 2005, and has been used as a military airfield since.

An airline spokesperson told detik.com news portal that both the pilot and co-pilot were foreigners unfamiliar with the terrain. He said there was no technical failure.//DPA
