Australia co-hosts nanomaterials event

The Australian Embassy's Australian Education International unit, in cooperation with the National Nanotechnology Centre, recently held the "Thailand-Australia Symposium: New Frontier on Advanced Functional Nanomaterials" as part of the celebrations marki

Australian Ambassador James Wise and Prof Sirirurg Sonsivilai, executive director of Nanotec, presided over the opening ceremony at the InterContinental Hotel.
“The aim of this symposium is to bring together leading Thai and Australian researchers and scientists to exchange research ideas and knowledge and, at the same time, identify opportunities for research collaborations among peers,” Sirirurg said.
“Australia and Thailand’s collaborative research relationship is underpinned by the 2004 Agreement on Bilateral Cooperation between the government of the Kingdom of Thailand and the government of Australia,” Wise said.
“In 2010, Australia was Thailand’s fourth most frequent collaborative partner, participating in 4.6 per cent of Thailand’s international joint publications. We hope this collaborative connection will grow much stronger,” he said.
The event focused on nanomaterials for sensing and electronic devices, nanomaterials for energy and the environment and nanocharacterisation and analysis.
Representatives and researchers from seven leading Australian technology and research universities as well as Australia’s Commonwealth Scientific and Industrial Research Organisation participated in the symposium alongside their Thai counterparts.
