Executives of Nation U and SCB signed an agreement last week to run the joint programme.
Suthada Mekrungruangkul, assistant to the president of Nation U, said to get a job was an indicator that showed success of education. Therefore, the university had joined hands with SCB to provide the finance and banking programme under the university’s Faculty of Business Administration. Professionals from SCB would come to Nation U to teach students and also the students would do apprenticeships with SCB from their first year of studying until their last year on the programme. It will focus on having them learn from real working situations and real problems regarding finance and banking of SCB.
“The programme will open for student applications in the 2013 academic year. Only 300 students will be selected to enter the programme to be offered at both Lampang and Bangkok campuses. Moreover, any students who can graduate with accumulated grade point average of at least 2.75 and good behaviour will be immediately employed by SCB,” Suthada said.
SCB executive vice president Worawat Suvagondha said financial transactions in today’s world involved more than just money withdrawal but refinance, life insurance and risk insurance so SCB needed skilled personnel to handle this.
“This will be the first time that SCB will support the entire four years of internships for the students,” he said.
A current problem for SCB is that newly recruited employees have to be trained for two months, but many of them quit during training or after working for a short period, according to Korapat Boonsermsombat, manager for human resources relation-individual customers at SCB.
Korapat said the joint programme would help SCB recruit new employees who really want to work in the field and it would hire Nation U’s graduates who are able to be financial advisers for customers. They can choose to work at any of 1,130 SCB branches nationwide.
