Charter amendments deliberation disrupted by Democrats' protest

The deliberation of charter amendment bills was delayed after several Democrat MPs protested against the Senate Speaker Nikom Waiyaratphanich.

The MPs pointed out that the Senate speaker had earlier expressed his support for charter amendments and also sponsored an amendment bill so he should not be allowed to chair the joint meeting of MPs and senators for the deliberation.
But Parliament President Somsak Kiartsuranon decided that the Senate speaker could chair the meeting. The decision was met with protests by Democrat MPs, prompting the debate to be delayed.
