Nikom insists to go on chairing joint meeting despite strong protests

Senate Speaker Nikom Waiyaratphanich Tuesday insisted that he will continue taking turn with Parliament President Somsak Kiartsuranon to chair joint House-Senate deliberation of charter amendment bills despite strong protests by Democrat MPs.

Nikom met three rounds of strong protests by the Democrats on Monday, the first of three days deliberation of the bills. The Democrats wanted him to withdraw his name from sponsoring two of three amendment bills before chairing the meeting.
Giving an interview of FM 100.5, Nikom said the bills have been deliberated so he could not withdraw his name. He said he would continue to perform his duty as the chairman of the meeting in alternation with Somsak.
