13 Myanmar soldiers killed in south near Thai border

Thirteen soldiers from Myanmar were killed on Friday in the far south of the country near the Thai border, Thai officials said.
Myanmar officials asked Thailand for cooperation in monitoring the border area after a firefight with an unidentified armed group left the soldiers dead, Deputy Thai Army spokesman Colonel Winthai Suraree said. Myanmar gave no further information, he said.
The incident happened near the southern tip of Myanmar across from Thailand's Ranong province about 470 kilometres south of Bangkok.//DPA
